From Moses kwem, Makurdi
The Ter Kwande His Royal Highness Timothy Ahile, has said that the number of Internally Displaced Persons ( IDP) he saw in Guma during his visit to the camp was shocking proving that the Benue state governor Dr Samuel Ortom, under reported the real number of the IDP in the state.
“I led a team of brethren from Peace House Makurdi Field to one of the IDPs camp called Ortese in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State on Monday.
“There are 11,117 families in that Camp, divided into 18 blocks. There are over 30 thousand internally displaced persons in that Camp alone who have fled their ancestral homes to the camp”, the royal father said.
Ahile who lamented over the poor living conditions of the IDP camp in Guma expressed his disappointment on while federal government is providing relief materials to other states but Benue victims of herders attacks are excluded.
“These farming population have no source of water, no farm or any other source of livelihood, neither was there any medical facilities nearby.”
“When I saw the population of children, women and the thousands of local tents spread in a vast land, I couldn’t help but shade tears, he maintained.
The royal father Who took some relief materials to the camp, pointed out that what he donated could reach five percent of the population.
He added,”While leaving for the place I thought we have spent much to meet their clothing, food and toiletries’ needs. On getting there it was like a drop of water in an ocean.”
“About 2 hours after we left the Camp, I received a phone call that fight ensued between farmers and herds men in the bush and 4 trucks of soldiers arrived at the camp. Guess what? The camps will swell with human beings,”he stated.
The Ter Kwande who condemned those who are castigating Ortom that he is a propaganda said they are the real enemies of the state.
He pointed out that the governor grossly under reported the killings and the suffering condition of the IDP in Benue state.
” People say Gov. Ortom of Benue State is making propaganda about IDP camps. I disagree, there is injustice going on in the land. People are suffering, someone must speak out even if he is the devil.”
“This is the situation in Benue and Nigeria at large Someone must rise ,
Benue and Plateau indegines are not having things easy from these land grabbers. In all these, no federal government presence no assistance.
If you have never visited any of the IDPs, then you aren’t seen anything in your life” he maintained.
Similarly, the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Emmanuel Shio in an interview with our correspondence said President Buhari has abandoned and neglected about 1, 597, 000 IDPs (bonafide Nigerian citizens) in the camps and host communities in Benue State.
Dr. Shio was in tears when he asked “Why Why is Mr. President and international humanitarian actors only interested in the IDPs in the North East when the population of IDPs in Benue State is currently more?”
“Why is Mr. President so desperate to borrow 4 billion dollars & €710 million pounds to build a railway in the North East to link up with Niger while the teeming population of IDPs in Benue State (Bonafide Nigerian citizens that voted massively for Mr. President in 2015 and 2019) are dying of hunger and lack of medical care?”
“What is Mr. President exporting to Niger? Or importing from Niger that is of economic benefit to Nigerians, especially the distressed and traumatised, that warrant borrowing such a humongous amount of money at the expense of millions of Nigerians abandoned and condemned in Benue IDPs camps and other parts of Nigeria by the Federal Government?”
He concluded by saying “The Almighty God is watching!”
